Elizabeth Grden

Liz represents clients in high-stakes commercial disputes and government enforcement actions involving claims ranging from breach of contract, fraud, and defamation to civil RICO violations, toxic tort liability, and patent infringement. She has extensive experience in both state and federal court at every stage of litigation, from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal. Known for her sound judgment, strategic perspective, and broad legal knowledge, Liz excels at untangling complex legal and factual scenarios. Clients value Liz’s ability to help them navigate the intricacies of any dispute—regardless of industry, size, or forum—while minimizing risk, cost, and disruption to their business.

Having formerly practiced at an Am Law 50 firm, Liz is highly adept at managing high-dollar, high-profile matters. Recently, she served on the trial team defending Fox Corp. and Fox News Network against a multibillion-dollar litigation brought by Dominion Voting Systems. Called “the libel law equivalent of the Super Bowl” by The New York Times, the case was litigated to the brink of trial before the parties reached a $780+ million settlement. She also was part of the team representing former Northwestern head football coach Pat Fitzgerald in a $130 million breach of contract and defamation lawsuit against the university and its president.

Beyond trial work, Liz has considerable experience leading discovery and trial preparation in sensitive, public-facing matters. She has overseen defensive discovery efforts, coordinated press strategy with in-house counsel, and prepared high-level executives for deposition and trial. Her role has also included identifying witnesses, conducting interviews, and developing claims and risk analyses as part of pre-suit investigations. She is particularly skilled at dealing with experts, translating complex technical issues into jury-ready presentations.

Drawing on her time clerking for a federal judge, Liz crafts arguments that resonate with courts and drive favorable outcomes, whether by gaining ground through motion practice or highlighting key facts at trial. No matter the size or stakes of the case, Liz cuts through the complexity to build a strong and approachable narrative that drives the case forward.

Liz devotes significant time to pro bono work. Notably, she has spearheaded a class action suit on behalf of 170,000 U visa seekers against the Department of Homeland Security concerning unreasonable delays, negotiated a major policy change as part of a transgender rights case against the Professional Disc Golf Association, and represented a class of 28,000 Illinois state prisoners challenging the constitutionality of the use of extreme isolation by the Illinois Department of Corrections.
