CW named a 2024 "Top Boutique" by Daily Journal

November 2024

The Daily Journal announced that CW has been named to its list of 2024 “Top Boutique” law firms. The list celebrates the best "small but mighty specialized law firms" in California.

In a special issue feature, the Daily Journal profiled CW’s recent successes in complex, high-stakes cases on both sides of the v. On offense, we secured a jury trial victory for a Los Angeles sheriff's captain, Jennifer Seetoo, in a gender discrimination and retaliation suit against the county and the sheriff's department. On defense, we contested a bank executive's fraud convictions before the Ninth Circuit, first obtaining a reversal of one conviction, and then a reversal of her sentence, in two published opinions.

Later this month, CW will once again appear before the Ninth Circuit, challenging former city councilman Dr. Mark Ridley-Thomas' convictions for bribery and conspiracy. Partner Alyssa Bell is set to argue the case. “Alyssa is our heavyweight, the intellectual glue of the firm,” co-founder Reuven Cohen told the Daily Journal. He also praised partner Kathleen Erskine, a courtroom veteran whose cross-examination of the former L.A. county sheriff helped nail down Seetoo’s win. “Our 16 lawyers are the best of the best,” Cohen said. “Our partners are rock stars. To use a basketball analogy, we don't draft by position. We go for quality.”
