Camille Fenton

Camille focuses on white collar criminal defense and investigations. As a former federal public defender, she brings first-chair trial experience and investigation skills to her work for clients facing potential criminal penalties. Camille is a skilled communicator and a zealous advocate, able to present powerful arguments to decision-makers—from judges and juries to federal prosecutors and law enforcement agents—while keeping her clients shielded from escalation and further exposure.

Camille has appeared in federal courtrooms since the beginning of her legal career. During her time as a public defender, she managed a full caseload of felony federal criminal cases from trial through appeal, including drafting appellate briefs and arguing before the Ninth Circuit. She also argued detention hearings, sentencing hearings, and motion hearings on a regular basis. Before that, she served for two years as a senior law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.

Having led jury and bench trials to verdict, Camille knows what it takes to thoroughly litigate a case on behalf of her clients. Because the client’s bottom line is always her top priority, however, she deploys only the resources needed to drive the case forward. When planning her client’s next move, she considers every possible factor, including their economic interests, the facts of the case, and the judge’s ruling history. If trial is the best or only option, Camille is ready to go the distance. But if her client is better served with an out-of-court solution, she negotiates hard to reach a favorable agreement.

Resolving an investigation requires discretion, efficiency, and a keen eye for detail. Camille honed these skills as the investigations supervisor for the Brooklyn Defender Services. In her time there, she investigated nearly 500 felony cases a year. Now, she draws on her experience to help clients respond strategically to internal and government investigations and enforcement actions. Camille skillfully guides clients through inquiries while limiting damage to their finances, operations, and reputation.

Camille’s practice is informed by her global perspective and multilingual abilities. She has lived and worked in Paris, France; rural Tanzania; and Dakar, Senegal. In Senegal, she received a Princeton fellowship to work with the United Nations World Food Programme. Camille has relied on her French fluency and Spanish proficiency in diverse contexts throughout her career. Most recently, she utilized her language skills and cultural competency when representing nearly 50 clients from around the world in immigration habeas proceedings. She was able to secure the release of most of her clients from immigration detention.
