CW welcomes civil litigator Elizabeth Grden

August 2025

CW is pleased to announce that Elizabeth (Liz) Grden has joined the firm as an associate, further expanding the firm’s litigation capabilities. Liz represents clients in high-stakes commercial disputes and government enforcement actions involving claims ranging from breach of contract, fraud, and defamation to civil RICO violations, toxic tort liability, and patent infringement. She has extensive experience in both state and federal court at every stage of litigation, from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal.

Before joining Cohen Williams, Liz practiced at Winston & Strawn LLP, where she was a key member of trial teams on headline-making cases. Notably, she served as one of the managing lawyers representing former Northwestern head football coach Pat Fitzgerald in a $130 million breach of contract and defamation lawsuit against the university and its president.

Liz commented, “I’m excited to join Cohen Williams and collaborate with such a talented and passionate group of attorneys. I have been so impressed by CW’s ability to take on the highest caliber of work while staying true to its core values. I am thrilled to begin the next chapter of my career at a firm that embraces collegiality, flexibility, and a team-oriented approach to client service.”

Managing partner Marc Williams, who heads CW’s civil practice, said, “Liz is an accomplished litigator who has played an integral role in the success of numerous bet-the-company cases. With her expertise, we will deepen our commitment to providing top-tier representation to clients facing critical threats to their economic interests.”
